Days like this!

Momma told me there'd be days like this--there'd be days--like this! I wish!  Unpredictable is what our days really are.  A throbbing thumb that feels like a sledge hammer came down on it & like it will never work again!  Doc says 45% of hand function relies on the thumb.  Great.  When I started this travel plan I was feeling really great & healthy & capable.  Turn a corner & BANG!  But doc also says it will heal up good as new.  So I am learning---about dependence, vulnerability, courage & adventure.  I have been on a rollercoaster.  First the heady excitement of deciding to go around the world & buying the tickets.  Then the bottom dropping out as I contemplate the committment I made to something so radical! The $$$ !  Adjustments that steadied me have been:  I bought a huge world map & covered a kitchen wall with it.  Being able to see all the places I will go all at once helped me see the tour as more managable.  Prayer--God is with me wherever I go & beyond! I need not be a stranger anywhere.  In fact, I suspect more friends are out there ready to be found. I also spoke to people about my plans, which opened them up to sharing  many fascinating stories about their own sojourns!  I also researched & booked about 2/3 of the lodging I need.  That really calmed me down.  Then the pain, the xrays, the surgery! Denial, anger & anguish!  But then my family & friends rallied around me & I am back on the road to exploring the planet! A rollercoaster!  Maybe I'm crazy!

  1. Dear GiGi,

I didn't realize you were such a GOOD WRITER! You draw us in, you inspire, you inform. I especially like: "Looking upward & outward...But today I can be found in bed,...delight & trepidation....I will gaze over my shoulder at you sometimes,..." You definitely make me feel as though I am on this journey with you, as you share your motivations, thoughts, & emotions; the things that "steadied" & "calmed" you; the things you're learning about yourself & the world. I can hardly wait for your descriptions of new places & cultures, & of how you experience your adventures there.
